To check for and install software updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update. The screen shows the currently installed version of iPadOS and whether an update is available.
If Apple has just released the first version of a major software update (example: iPad OS 14), we recommend waiting a few weeks before installing it on your iPads just to make sure there aren't any immediate issues found.
When you update to the latest version of iPadOS, your data and settings remain unchanged.
