Refunding Transactions

If a donor accidentally gave the wrong amount or meant to give to a different organization, you can refund their transaction from your admin dashboard.

1. Find the transaction you need to refund from the All Transactions page by going to Reporting > All Transactions

2. Select the transaction from the report.

3. Click the Edit Transaction button in the side panel.

4. You can then refund the transaction by entering the new amounts in the "Edited" column. To do a full refund, your new total amount in the edited column will be $0. (A full refund is the default setting.) To do a partial refund, you will enter the amount the donor intended to give in the category fields, and the difference will show as a refund under the total.

5. Once you have entered the new amounts or left blank for a full refund, click Confirm Refund to submit the transaction.

Note: If refunding an ACH transaction, be sure the transaction has cleared your the donor's bank before issuing a refund. We usually recommend waiting a week for this unless the donor can show proof of it clearing their bank. *Some ACH transactions can be voided if caught the same day before the processing cutoff time. To get an ACH transaction voided, you will need to reach out to support@securegive.com or call our office: 855-895-8951.

*When refunding on the same day as the original transaction, it results in a void. However, for debit card users, they will still see the transaction pending on their account for a few days then it will just drop off. This is how the bank handles it. SecureGive has no control over when it will drop off.
