Donation/Purchase categories are designations that an administrator can set up to allow members to give to more than one fund at once (i.e. - building fund, missions, tithe, etc.). To add a category, follow the steps below.
1. Log into your account and go to Categories then choose either Donations or Purchases. Donations are tax deductible and Purchase Categories are for non tax deductible items.
2. Once here, you'll see the list of categories you have already created and a + button in the upper right to create a new category. The list defaults to showing you all categories for the main location. However, you can choose to filter by Displayed, Hidden, or Inactive. To see the status of categories by location, use dropdown menu to the upper right to choose which one to view.
3. On the Add Donation/Purchase Category page, enter the Category Name, Helper Text (optional), and Category ID (optional). Helper Text is a short description of the category that will be seen by the donor.
4. Choose if you want the amount entered by the member to be Flexible or Fixed.
If the amount is Flexible, the member can put in any donation or purchase amount they like. (That is the default setting.) If the amount is Fixed, the member can only enter amounts in fixed increments.
A Fixed amount is a great option for Purchase categories to sell multiples of the same item like t-shirts or conference tickets. Here's an example of how that would look online:
5. Choose whether you want the category to be Active.
6. Once you've entered all information, simply click Save Changes and you will return back to the list of categories.
7. Your new category will now appear at the bottom of the list, but you can put it in whatever order you wish by clicking and holding on the arrows to the right of the category and dragging it up or down.
8. Use the toggle to display or hide categories on each location individually. If you have more than one location, you will use the dropdown menu to toggle between locations and display or hide categories for each one. This allows you to have categories displayed on one or more locations that you do not want to show on others.
**Please note that, if you ever change the name of a category, it will change the name on the history of transactions within that category as well.
