If you have a card swipe on your Olea kiosk that connects to the computer's USB port, and if that card reader no longer recognizes card swipes, then either the card swipe has gone bad or there is an issue with the USB port that the card swipe is plugged into. The card swipe may also be dirty. If you are experiencing these issues, then follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Steps:
1. Disconnect and then reconnect the card swipe's USB cable into a different port on the computer. Then test.
2. It is possible that transactions have been attempted with dirty or bad cards, or that the card swipe is dirty. If you have not already, test with a couple of different cards. If the issue is consistent across multiple cards, then the next step is to clean the card swipe. The easiest way to do this is to pick a card reader cleaner at a local office supply store. You can also wrap a credit card in a t-shirt type of material, saturate it with isopropyl alcohol, and run it back and forth through the card swipe a few times to clean it.
3. If the card swipe still doesn't work, then it has most likely gone bad. While we do not directly sell replacement card swipes for Olea kiosks, you can use any USB card swipe that works in keyboard emulation mode and reads tracks 1 and 2 on the card. Below is a link to one that we recommend. There are a few options at that link, but the model number you need is #21040110. Those are plug and play, so you'll just need to disconnect the current card swipe and then connect the new one.
